Shutting Detroit Down: Sheet Metal Workers Find New Army Jobs

The steel cities of Detroit and Pittsburg may be experiencing cutbacks, but steel workers do not have to accept unemployment. To find out if you qualify for a sheet metal job in the US Army, Click Here.

Sheet metal workers for the Army are charged with the jobs of constructing buildings, tanks, ships, planes and submarines for all military branches. Their jobs include cutting the metal, shaping and welding the pieces to create the shells of necessary Army machinery and vehicles.

Transfer into US Army Training

Former steel city workers will still have to experience the 9 weeks of basic training that any Military enlist must endure, but should have no trouble scoring the required ASVAB score to land 51 more days of A-school training for sheet metal working. This special training is offered in Gulfport, MS where trainees learn how to build vehicles, building and machinery to meet Army standards of quality and safety.

Working Back into a Civilian Career after the Army

The Army requires sheet metal workers to serve a minimum of 60-months of duty. The 60-months of duty ensures that returning veterans come back to an improved economy with enough experience and Army training to hopefully land a wonderful career as a supervisor at their former metal factory job. Service does not have to end after 60 months but can continue until the Army personnel member reaches military retirement age.

There are many Army jobs currently available… click here to explore your options!
