To qualify for the specialist program, you will have to go through basic training. This is because your assignments will take you to the battlefields. You will need to know how to defend yourself and support the unit you are attached to. While your main weapon will be a camera, you may be called upon to use more than that.
After basic training, your training will switch to specialist training as a photographer. This includes training on how to properly frame a shot as well as light exposures and frame speeds. You will also be trained on how to maintain your equipment. Developing film is necessary for using cameras which still use traditional film. You will also be trained on how to use digital cameras and the computer programs which allow you to manipulate images.
