How to Work as a Transportation Management Coordinator

The United States Army has a lot of stuff to move. The main way in which the Army moves people and equipment is through trucks and other types of vehicles. A Transportation Management Coordinator makes sure the vehicles and the load they carry make it safely to their destination with minimal confusion in the process. You will help to make sure the combat and defense efforts can go forward without delays.

Duties and Responsibilities

When working as a Transportation Management Coordinator, you will work with the vehicle operators to make sure they know where they are going and how to get there. You will also be responsible to make sure the right vehicle is available to move the necessary cargo to where it needs to be. You will also make sure all cargo is properly organized and accounted for.

Training and Deployment

The training you will receive includes basic training as well as six weeks of advanced training. You will learn a great deal while in the classroom, but the majority of what you will learn will be hands-on. You will learn to prepare transportation documents, determine efficient modes of transportation, prepare equipment for movement and label cargo.

You may be deployed to a large base with a large amount of vehicles at your disposal. You may also be deployed to smaller units around the world in which you will have to file the proper requisitions for the vehicles you need. Your training will help you to know exactly how to utilize all equipment and vehicles at your disposal no matter where you are stationed.
