US Hostage Rescued by Commandos near Kabul

United States special forces soldiers managed to free a kidnapped American who was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers during a late-night mission last week. In a country where these types of incidents occur on a regular basis, this type of hostage rescue is almost unheard of. Giving no public notice of the Americans abducted, insurgents secreted the United States citizen 30 miles west of Kabul with no apparent desire to release him. Several insurgents were killed in the extreme and dangerous mission and the United States contractor was released without harm. Militants working for the Taliban have managed to capture several journalists as well as international aid workers and have been well-paid in multiple exchanges of prisoners and managed to secure the release of Taliban fighters in some instances. With the success of so many kidnappings, it seems only logical that they would continue their reign of terror, capitalizing on the desire for the safe return of United States citizens. No specific information was released by the United States special forces teams involved in the raid, as participants did not want to compromise any of the tactics used in the successful rescue or further endanger the lives of any United States citizens such as the Army Corps of engineer personnel who are constantly working on all manner of projects in Afghanistan in increasingly wild and lawless areas.
