Colorado Springs Army Reserve Receives Silver Star

Army Reserve Sgt. Gregory S. Ruske was recently awarded the Silver Star for his actions during an ambush while his patrol was on patrol with his six fellow squad members. This Colorado Springs sergeant was wounded in action after his squad came under fire from a surprise ambush. After being wounded, he noticed one of the policeman who had survived the initial attack was still alive and being fired at. Working together with his squad, Ruske had one of his men lay down cover fire as he and another squad member rushed to pull the wounded man to safety in the house. His actions were a tribute to his training and upbringing, leaving no man behind as he risked his life despite being wounded. The Silver Star is awarded for bravery under fire of the enemy and is the third highest award given by the United States to its service personnel who have shown his or herself to be above the rest in courage and commitment. Although Ruske states he is only an ordinary guy, this ordinary guy showed himself to be a true soldier and tribute to his squad, home, and family.
