BAE Systems Win $20 Million Paladin Fire Control Support Contract

The US Army has contracted BAE Systems to deliver Paladin Digital Fire Control Systems (PDFCS) kits and components for M109a6 Paladin vehicles. The contract is worth $20 million. The Paladin Digital Fire Control system supports all communications and computer processing, according to Andy Hove, the vice president of Combat Systems programs for BAE systems. According to Hove, some of the kits will be installed on vehicles in the field while others will be shipped to an Army Depot for later use. Under this phase of the contract, BAE systems will purchase and ship 140 PDFCS kits and 60 other spare components to support the system. Approximately 450 kits have already been procured as part of this contract. Work will be performed by BAE Systems at facilities in York PA, Sterling Heights, MI, and Anniston, AL. Work will commence in September 2009l. Delivery of these systems is expected to be completed by January, 2010. The Army’s TACOM Life Cycle Management Command manages the contract. The M109a6 Paladin Self-Propelled Howitzer is a combat-proven weapons system that provides shoot and scoot capability for protection from counter battery fire. Paladin’s range offers increased lethality and survivability because the crew remains in the vehicle throughout the fire mission.
