The US Army has ordered large quantities of Truamacure’s WoundStat, a compound that controls arterial bleeding.
The US Army’s order was for 18,000 units. This is enough to equip every US military medic in both Iraq and Afghanistan, according to the US Army. According to the company, some units have been equipped with the product in both theaters of war.
TraumaCure has announced that it has now passed the $1 million sales mark for WoundStat. It is a revolutionary product for treating traumatic wounds. Rather than using traditional gauze to bandage wounds, mineral-based WoundStat is a grain in a lightweight pouch. Army studies have demonstrated that granular dressings are most effective for the kind of irregular wounds produced by blast injuries.
About ninety percent of injuries on today’s battlefield are the results of blasts, rather than gunshot wounds. WoundStat is fast acting and can stop severe bleeding, a step that is crucial to wound survivability. General Ronald R. Blanck, the former US Army Surgeon General, said that 20 percent of battlefield deaths could be avoided through the use of an effective haemostatic product. Military experts say the product can be 100 percent effective at stopping bleeding in severe wounds.
