Awareness and Prevention: Sexual Assault

The Army has taken a new stance in trying to stave off sexual assault from happening to any of its personnel. In this instance, they are trying to teach service personnel about date rape and now to avoid becoming trapped in a situation. This particular 90-minute 2-person program was created to help service men and women recognize the “stop signals” for any situation, and has been shown numerous places around the country to date. It is hoped that this program will help change how people view certain dating scenarios. Many individuals expressed surprise at how interesting the session was as they thought it would only be a briefing. However, the Army has designed this program as a skit, dividing it into two parts and encouraging the audience to select the parts they would like performed. This has allowed for interaction of the audience and encourages them to understand how serious sexual assault is, and how they can become more aware and try to prevent it from occurring. Although some instances may be unavoidable, it is hoped that by spreading awareness and prevention it will be possible to one day completely stop it from happening.
