The Hottest Careers for Veterans are the Most In-Demand Nationwide

You may think you’re at a disadvantage, competing in the job market as a veteran of the U.S. Military…but think again.

Right now, some of the best jobs available are also the ones you’re most qualified for as a military veteran.

Veteran jobs require skills you’ve already learned during your term of service – and they’re high-paying, too. Plus, the military has all the tips and tricks you need to get the job.

The 5 Most Sought-After Veteran Military Careers. These careers/fields are the most popular among military veterans since they involve skills that are easy to transfer from your experience in the service.

Computer Science/Network Systems Management: Requires anywhere from a bachelor’s degrees to a master’s degree and pays $38,000-$148,000.

Health Care Administration: An associate’s, bachelor’s degrees, or master’s degree is usually required. Pay ranges from $45,000-$128,000.

Human Resources Training Management: Requires a bachelor’s degrees or a master’s degree, with pay ranging from $51,000-$98,000.

Training and Education: You’ll need a bachelor’s degrees or a master’s degree and should expect pay ranges from $33,000-$141,000.

Law Enforcement: One of the easiest transitions as it only requires a high school diploma but rewards advanced education up to a master’s degree, with pay ranges from $27,000-$104,000.

It turns out these fields also some of the most popular career fields for employers. In fact, the Department of Labor’s 2008-2009 Occupational Handbook includes all five of these careers in its list of the best employment prospects from now until 2016.

All of these fields have wide pay ranges. You can expect to earn more money if you have a more advanced degree, if you’re in a city with a high cost of living, or if you have significant experience in that field.

Get Free Money for College as a Veteran. You may need a more advanced degree for the career you have in mind or to qualify for a higher pay scale.

Not a problem – the Montgomery G.I. Bill and a variety of other tuition payment assistance programs from the U.S. Military help you get a college education at hugely reduced cost. For example, the U.S. Army funds its soldiers up to nearly $90,000 of tuition costs toward an advanced degree.

You can find out more about what careers are best suited to your personal experience in the military and how to get the degree (and money!) you need to pursue your ultimate career here.
